I was ten the first time I camped in the winter, and a boy scout. My leader warned us to change our socks and mitts every couple of hours; I listened, but my best friend didn’t. We spent our second night at the hospital after he passed out from hypothermia. Unlike many things in my life, this was one lesson I was happy to learn from afar. If you’re considering winter camping with kids, some preplanning will make your trip safe and fun.

For your first adventure, keep it to one or two nights and stay within driving distance to civilization. Kids are generally better sports than adults; cold mornings and early evenings are fine as long the time in between is packed with lots of outdoor fun. Set your kids up for a lifetime of winter camping with these simple rules:

Gauge your speed
If you’re hiking to your destination, remember that the snow will slow you down. A trail that takes two hours to traverse in the summer will exhaust short legs and take twice the time during the winter. Moderate your expectations and have a back-up plan if you can’t make daily goals.

Over estimate clothing needs
Warm, wet weather followed by a cold night is your most dangerous enemy. Thankfully, high tech fabrics designed to wick moisture away from skin make staying dry easier to manage. Estimate your clothing needs and add 50 percent more when traveling with kids. And remind them to change often even if they argue. Hypothermia is not a death sentence, but frostbite is irreversible (damage can vary from mild scarring to tissue death).

Never go anywhere without your compass or GPS
This is rule number one, no matter what the season, but it can be a life and death issue in the winter. During snowstorms your own footprints, landmarks and animal tracks disappear. And panic sets in fast when freezing to death becomes a real possibility. While you’re at it, make sure you have cell service for that first trip.

Stay close to your equipment
This may seem like a misnomer, but hikers who set up camp and then go for a walk to find water or wood are as common as brown bears in Tennessee. Explore your surroundings only in pairs and mark your position continually on your GPS or compass. If you do get turned around, you’ll be able to make it back to the equipment you need to build a fire and stay warm.

When it comes to camping with kids, capitalize on their adventurous spirit. After all, when was the last time you spent a night in a snow covered forest just for the fun of it?

I am a keen camper and hiker, and I like to have good equipment when I\\\’m setting off into the countryside. Living in the UK means putting up with unpredictable weather, and it seems to be worsening. Warm sunny days can be swiftly followed by gray skies and pouring rain. I always like to have one or two 4 season tents ready in my loft. They are more expensive than normal tents, but they are well worth it.

Outdoor tents

If you just want an outdoor tent for occasional use or for the kids to mess about in, in the garden, then 4 season tents are not for you. You may just camp in summertime, so they are not really appropriate. I like to camp all the year round, if possible. That means, I want a waterproof tent that won\\\’t let me down. There\\\’s nothing worse than water getting into your tent and finding you\\\’ve no dry clothes to change into. 4 season tents will stand up to strong gales when you\\\’re perched on the side of a mountain.

The problem I have with carrying a lot of gear on my back, is my size. I\\\’m quite small and I can\\\’t cope with a heavy backpack. That influences my decision when I\\\’m buying 4 season outdoor tents, because they have to be of reasonable weight as well as high quality. Tent manufacturers are working all the time to improve the materials of all weather tents and try to make them as lightweight as possible. It\\\’s no good however, making them light and compromising on quality. When choosing 4 season tents, it\\\’s best to stick to known brand names that you can trust. I\\\’m always suspicious of a tent that seems like a bargain too good to be true. There\\\’s a reason that it\\\’s so cheap.

My family and I love to go camping in all the seasons. I particularly like going in the Fall, or Autumn as we call it here. There\\\’s a crispness in the air when you get up in the morning, and the leaves are turning into lovely shades of brown, yellow and red. Winter can be fun too, in 4 season tents, when there is a frost on the ground or even snow. A blanket of snow on a tent is the best heating system around. It insulates the heat inside a tent and it\\\’s really very cozy. There\\\’s no need to stay indoors when it\\\’s not Summer. 4 season outdoor tents give you a ticket to travel at any time.

It has been a whole year since you had the chance to use some of the camping gear supplies that you originally bought to spend time down at the lake. You already know that the old bucket with the swivel top on it might need replacing, but it sure did work out great as a chair for the length of time you got to use it. It never made its way to the water where you could fill it with minnows and do some serious fishing with it.

Some of the other camping gear supplies might be worn out too, because batteries were left in some of the flashlights for almost a year, and might now dim a time or two and we might not find our way clear to the restroom area at night. This year, you plan to have several mounting brackets on hand to hold your fishing poles more firmly in the ground. It is time to get some revenge on the fishes for what they put you through last year.

Your camping gear supplies list is going to have to grow some, you know, because two fishing poles went in the water, and you never did have the chance to recover them. Those were some of the finest fishing poles on your camping gear supplies list for last year, and, by gosh, one day you plan to don some scuba gear and go back into the murky waters to find them.

As far as you are concerned, the best camping gear supplies are kept in the 48-quart cooler you like to keep by the fold out table that you always like to carry with you. This artic wonderland surely did keep those nice tender steaks you brought from home, nice and fresh until you could cook them. And cook them you did on that new, double burner stove, using the pots and pans that were perfectly sized to fit in well with the cooking utensils and all of your other kitchen camping gear supplies.

Yes, you love spending time at the lake, and waking up so refreshed and fully rested. The kids were really amused by the mummy shaped sleeping bags that you added to your camping gear supplies list especially for them. They thought camping outside was a true adventure and had a lot of fun erecting the 12-person tent, that looked like a palatial estate when it was lit up at night with the propane light that had that convenient push button starter.

On this year’s camping gear supplies list, you plan to get the kids another fun toy. They will be able to explore to their hearts content without ever leaving camp. They can also spend a lot of time gazing at the water too, and the trees and who knows what else.

You know their eyes will light up when you give them a pair of those nifty Olympic sized binoculars with the capability of scanning a 288 foot viewing field at one time. You know the kids can not hurt them because they are coated with rubber. They will also be thrilled to see that this marvelous addition to the camping gear shopping list comes with its own carry case, and a strap that will not hurt their neck.

You won’t need the latest or the best gadget if you are as me, to add it to your list on campaign cooking equipments. The major point in leaning towards a camp is to free ourselves from the fast moving, hefty normal life to a peaceful location where there are no technology or electronic gadgets dumped as seen in the modern age. This is what a majority of the campers like us think. Camping is a great effort to enjoy the nature. It needs special words to describe your presence in a peaceful location with quite surroundings.

Good and acceptable camping cooking equipments are necessary for a trip to assure a perfect meal. The equipment should also be suitable for handling, in fact very convenient. There are various cooking equipments for camping that serve the purpose as well as provide a good meal. These equipments are dependent on the type of expedition we seek for. Your list on the campaign cooking equipments depends o vary factors such as your ability to bear them and carry, the required space and also the area you are putting stay at. Open fire are not allowed in few campsites. So it requires you to carry one Dutch oven or some the other drill types that are available for your meal.

Dutch ovens are used to prepare food for a large group. It is also easy and very convenient to carry. The Dutch ovens are meant for outdoor cooking alone. We can work on them easily. A number of recipes are available for Dutch ovens alone. They can be found over the internet. Grills and cast iron pots are the different types of cooking equipments available other than the oven.

And this is to all the hardcore campers!! Setting a camp at the caravan park does not make up a camp with certain extras such as the fridge, camp kitchen, oven, freezer and stoves. But for the other people who carry family camp kitchens have a great camp instead. Camping on a cheap holiday may not the correct nature of camping. Because it always involves the energy and planning as cooking at such sites are really difficult. And hence the camping style comes to be the major factor to decide on. Once a consensus is reached on it, the next thing to proceed is to decide the camping cooking equipments needed that would suit the style.

Lightweight cookers are the best for hikers as they can be easily carried. Some families insist on not to carry any cooking equipments. They will have a tough time at the camp. Steel tripods for hanging the kettle, heavy campo grills to sit over the fire and pie cookers made of cast iron for toasting sandwiches are very essential.

Camping offers an easy and affordable escape from the rat race of everyday city life; an escape from people, cars, electronics, work, responsibilities, etc. However, camping today is nothing like the camping your grandfather did when he was young. The collection of outdoor camping equipment you can buy today gives a whole new meaning to the term “roughing it.”

There are new camping items pouring into shops every season that allow individuals and families the convenience and efficiency of almost feeling as if they are still at home, of course, minus the lengthy list above. Almost any type of equipment you can think of some manufacturer has already created, and all of the camping items you will ever need can be found in catalogs, camping outlets and online.

You will find more stuff than you thought ever existed. In fact, you may find that you never thought you would need some items until you come across them while shopping. A word of caution though: use your common sense when shopping. It is easy to go overboard and by items you don’t need and will never use.

The type of equipment needed for camping varies from one individual or family to the next, but in general, you will find that the first thing you need is a tent; though some choose to forgo this method and seek the extreme extravagance of a pop-up camper or recreational vehicle. The majority though, prefer to keep it simple and a little more wild and earthy. Nothing lets you commune with nature better than taking technology out of the equation. You will also need items such as a cooking stove, sleeping bags, ice chest, and you may even consider a nice air mattress. Camping should be about simplicity, but not at the expense of your back.

In addition to the normal camping necessities you will need, you’ll also want to consider what activities you plan on doing while on your outdoor adventure. If you intend to hike, bike, backpack, kayak, climb or fish, which tend to be the most popular recreational activities, then make sure you get everything you need in order to have a good time doing them. Any sports recreation store should easily be able to outfit you and prepare you for your outdoor expedition.

By being well prepared you will be better able to relax and enjoy yourself, rather than struggling with old antiquated camping gear. Make sure you update any old camping equipment in addition to buying any extra items. Some stores are great places to do this, and even allow you to shop online. So what are you waiting for? Gather up the pets and the rest of the family, get stocked up on the gear you need (and don’t forget the S’mores) and get out of the city. Go be one with nature—go camping!

Camping can be a very exciting activity for the children. It is often regarded by parents as an opportunity to bond with their kids during the weekends. Moreover, it will also be an opportunity to teach your kids new things about the environment and some life skills. You can develop team work and cooperation between your children while camping.

However, you should note that bringing your kids out to camp is not just a matter of pure fun and excitement. Rather, it brings certain responsibilities. To make sure that you can make the most out of your aspired camping experience, below are some tips that you should apply.

Involve your children in your plans

Make sure that your children are involved in planning for the camping activity. Let them play a part in choosing the camping site. However, as they make the choice, make sure that you explain to them the activities that they can do and the kind of environment that awaits them in their chosen camping ground.

Let them decide the camping activities

Aside from letting the kids choose the camp site, let them decide the camping activities that all of you will engage in. Choose camp games and activities that are quite exciting, entertaining, informative, and educational. Also, make sure that each of your children has camp responsibilities that fit their age and actual capabilities. You can ask them to help with the cooking, cleaning, or collecting firewood based on their capability.

Let them pack their own bags

Let your children pack their own things for the camping trip. However, you should provide them with a basic checklist in order to make sure that they will not forget to bring all the necessary tools and equipment needed. Also, you should double check their bags before you set out for your camping adventure.

Do a dry run in your own back yard

If your children are going out to camp for the first time, it will be best if you do a test camp out in your own backyard. Aside from the fact that such can be a good bonding activity as well, this will help you assess whether your children are really ready for an outdoor camping activity.

Teach them about basic camping rules

Before you bring your children to the campsite, make sure that they are well aware of the basic camping rules. This will not only keep them safe. Instead, such will also keep you and your kids out of harm’s way. Tell them where exactly are they allowed to play and run around, what time is the curfew, what their tasks are, and other rules and regulations.

Pack emergency first aid kits

Never forget to bring emergency first aid kids for yourself and the children. Be aware of the fact that since children are quite playful and sometimes careless, they are highly at risk for a wide variety of potential dangers out in the camping site.

Assign partners or buddies

If you are planning to bring four or more children, assign partners or buddies. Explain to them that they are tasked to look after each other and they are supposed to watch out for each other at all times. This can help you manage your young companions a lot easier.

Start your holiday and go camping…

Nowadays, there are variations of camping tents. There are tents for one person, tents for two people, and tents for entire families. You could choose camping tents based on your budget . One place you should look at when you try to find camping tents is Walmart camping tents.

Good camping tents would have room for chatting , preparing and sleeping . That will be great to have your own rooms and you should never get difficulties to buy that nowadays. Tents that have private rooms for doing your activities are good for camping. If you add the screen tent, you will have a nice little campsite .

Family Camping Tents

Type and size of family camping tents required will depend on the size of the family that will be using it. The thing to remember about tents is that the size is stated by the number of people who can fit comfortably inside, with no additional items inside. A two-person tent for instance, can hold two people in sleeping bags, with everything else they brought with them left outside.

Family tents should be more permanently than individual tents. It may not be ideal if the plan involves setting up a different campsite every day if you use family tents. They are great for temporary shelter for a few days, but can be heavy and inconvenient to set up and tear down on a daily basis. They are usually used in campsites for families spending a few days at the mountain, lake or village.

Camping Air Mattress

Air Mattress also one thing to be considered. When going camping, always plan on how the camping air mattress will be inflated. Not all air mattresses is completed with air compressors. Always remember to bring air compressors for just that reasons. Besides, lugging a large air mattress to the dedicated compressor and back can be a trial of its own. Having a foot pump makes inflating a camping air mattress easier and will not require someone to manually inflate one by blowing into it for hours.

Walmart Camping Tents

Walmart is one of online store with great camping tents variation. You can view many tents, starting from the Coleman, Aerobeds and others. You can also choose to buy individual tents or family tents.

Individual tents are so compact that they do not take up any space at all when traveling. They are great for hikers because they fold down small enough to fit on top or on the bottom of your backpack. These camping tents do come in handy for many different things.

Family tents for sure is bigger than individual tents. Three separate rooms allow children to sleep in their own area while the parents sleep in the larger middle section.

The thing everyone needs to remember about camping tents, including Walmart camping tents, is that must be dry before putting away. If they are not dry, it will caused small leaks throughout the tent. Camping tents can become covered with mildew and the mold and mildew can eat right through the canvas or nylon.

The material of which family camping tents are made should also be considered, as may of the new tents are designed to be tear resistant as well as waterproof. Despite what the weather report claims, it is always best to plan for the worst and enjoy the great weather when it comes.
